A new year, a fresh start

Received this in my page-a-day (www.pageaday.com) email this morning. Cool use of mirror writing in an appropriate font.

Shalom

(hmm users with firefox can add an image anyway)

That said I’m back researching into to the blogging thing again and talk about information overload! I feel the nervous tension rise just browsing through blogs – like I’ve had too much coffee. So much to read, so much to learn! Shalom, shalom, shalom… Gotta learn some coping/searching techniques.

The journey continues

I’ve just been reading through some of the blogs nominated for the Edublog awards – what a great way to find out about blogging! I’m reading the blog of proximinal development http://www.teachandlearn.ca/blog/ which has extended my understanding of the educational advantages of blogging. I had thought of it as a reflective tool, but it also has potential to build a social context. Students are writing, not only for themselves and their teacher (as it is in the case of a traditional essay) but for their classmates (and the world at large) which adds an extra dimension to their writing and takes the focus away from the teacher as guru.

This is the start

Why am I here? Well as an instructional designer and a very hands on learner I’m here to try out this blog stuff before I start advising lecturers on how to use them in their courses. So I am a newbie but maybe before the big blog design meeting on 10th January I’ll have a better idea of what I’m talking about. I saw a few interesting papers at Ascilite on blogs that have inspired me to take on this venture (and also gave me this address). So a blog on writing blogs – I love recursion.
